- Abstract: In this article we examine Miguel de Unamuno’s reception of Russian literature and show how the Spanish philosopher considered Dostoevsky as the true representative of the Russian soul. In order to understand Unamuno’s reception of Dostoevsky we analyze the main apparitions of the Russian writer in his work, emphasizing its linguistic and political aspects. Finally, we discuss the question whether Unamuno took as a model for “San Manuel Bueno, Martyr” Dostoevsky’s poem “The Grand Inquisitor”.
