  • Abstract: The article analyses several Italian Renaissance works of art on Gospel themes that show a new type of character, “The Questioner” (Uomo interrogante), who through the interpretation of the Gospel by means of painting turns from an episodic character into a protagonist engaged in a dialogue with God.
